The end of a year ushers in the beginning of a new one. There are few things in life as exciting as turning a new leaf and making a FRESH start. As you observe the last few days of 2006 come and go, why not develop some awareness in your life and set yourself up for positive change and a better life in 2007!?!
A physics principle states the following: that which is observed is that which will change. Oh, the power of observation and awareness. But how many of us prefer to look away and pretend like we don't notice our bad habits and lazy attitudes. Unfortunately, pretending that something is not there will not make it go away. Facing it will. Its time to take a good look at your life.
Every successful business takes inventory at their year end. If you want to be a success, or see change in a certain area of your life, you too should invest 30 minutes and take an inventory of your life. Here is a simple exercise that will help you get started.
Remember: keep it simple. Do not complicate this exercise or you will find yourself avoiding it. Give yourself two 15 minute sessions, no more. Take out a piece of paper and list the following three things:
1. Looking Back – Make a list of the 3 things you are most happy about from 2006. Thank GOD for these things. For example: started exercising again; sold my house; kept my job despite layoffs; built a stronger relationship with my spouse, child or friend.
2. Looking Now – Identify 3 patterns of action that are no longer acceptable to you. What are you unhappy about in your life? What makes you uncomfortable about your current situation?
3. Looking Ahead – Decide what 3 patterns of action you will take on in 2007. For example, if you are currently uncomfortable with the condition of your health, looking ahead you may commit to cultivating a habit of exercising 3 times a week for 30 minutes each and to eat 1 healthy meal everyday. |
